I'm going to present you, my dear readers, with a different Christmas (or other holiday) Song of the Day. Every Day. Yes, really. However, so as not to fill the blog with nothing but lyrics, I'll hide some of them so you can click if you want, or not.
Today's song is depressing, but one of my favorites nonetheless. The music is beautiful. It's perfect for a gloomy, rainy, cold day; and perfect for Texas which is far more likely to get rain at Christmas than snow. Ah, well.
I Believe in Father Christmas
Lyrics by Greg Lake
They said there'll be snow at Christmas
They said there'll be peace on Earth
But instead it just kept on raining
A veil of tears for the Virgin Birth
I remember one Christmas morning
The winter's light and the distant choir
The peal of a bell and that Christmas tree smell
And eyes full of tinsel and fire
They sold me a dream of Christmas
They sold me a silent night
They told me a fairy story
'Till I believed in the Israelite
And I believed in Father Christmas
I looked to the sky with excited eyes
Then I woke with a yawn in the first light of dawn
And saw him and through his disguise
I wish you a hopeful Christmas
I wish you a brave new year
All anguish, pain and sadness
Leave your heart and let your road be clear.
They said there'll be snow at Christmas
They said there'll be peace on Earth
Hallelujah, Noel! Be it Heaven or Hell
The Christmas we get we deserve
I like that one. A college boyfriend got my onto Emerson Lake and Palmer.
I got to play the Troika in band, later.
