Light At The End Of The Writers' Strike

Apparently, the end of the writers' strike is nigh. Glory, Hallelujah!

Thanks to MMV, here's an article updating the status of TV. "LOST" will apparently produce 5 episodes to air in April/May, and "House" will do four to six episodes starting in April. Thank God. Really. I go into House withdrawal. Luckily we've still not caught up, so for now withdrawal only lasts as long as it takes Netflix to get the next disc to my mailbox. But that can only last so long.

"Battlestar Galactica" will air the first 11 episodes of its final season in April. But now, according to the article, the last half of its final season will likely not air until 2009. Way to frustrate your fans, guys.

Why I Can't Watch "House" Before Bed

Last night I dreamed that when I took Lachlan in for his dental work, they informed me that he has a rare genetic disorder that is incurable and will cause his brain to deteriorate.

(FYI, we're taking him for massive dental work on Friday, complete with sedation. For Lachlan. It's totally unfair that they don't offer sedation to the parents, as well. I bet they'd do better business if they whiffed some of that nitrous oxide into the room when it's time to pay the bill, don't you?)

When Technology Bites

We started watching the new Battlestar Galactica in November. We became quickly hooked, and devised ways to watch the entire series up to the current shows. Yesterday we watched last weeks' episode, which got us completely caught up.

So tonight, we eagerly turned to our TiVo for the new episode, only to find that TiVo was blissfully unaware that it was supposed to be recording anything. Wha-?

Oh, yes. They changed the definition of Daylight Savings Time. Our TiVo is modem-impaired, and hasn't called in to the mother ship in nearly two years. It didn't get the memo. It's recording everything an hour earlier, and there's nothing we can do about it tonight.

Thank the Gods for iTunes. Remember when if we missed a TV show, we were just out of luck?

Oh, my head ...

We just watched four episodes in a row of Battlestar Galactica. We finished our marathon with "The Final Cut" from season 2.0.

Oh, how my head is spinning.

If you were like us and held out on watching this, stop it and go rent the discs right now.

And this is a screamingly funny item, if you know about my history with toasters.

This one made me laugh as well, because I do know the difference. Let's face it: I've been waiting for a good, popular BSG since the 80s. My inner preteen geek feels vindicated. Why did we wait so long to watch this?

Jeff Says I Don't Get Out Much

After reading to my four-year-old, I have come to the only logical conclusion:

The Cat in the Hat is Q.

Interactive Global Lost

This is the most fun TV show ever.

I didn't see it, but apparently during last night's episode of "Lost" they aired a commercial for the Hanso Foundation. And the manuscript Sawyer was reading is available for purchase.

And then, check out the post on Lost ... and gone forever. Follow the links.

Most fun TV show. Ever.

Why was "Firefly" really cancelled?

Hank Parnell nicely sums up the reasons "Firefly" was so good ... and why it had to be cancelled.

Maybe he's paranoid. On the other hand, I can buy his argument that "Firefly" had to die because it was too focused on personal responsibility and justice, too insistent that government was the bad guy, and, ultimately, too Southern.

We've been borrowing our copy. I think I'll go shopping and give Joss Whedon the money he deserves.

Hat tip to Chris

Late to the Party

We've finally started watching "Firefly."

Why didn't anyone tell us? No, I know, you all told us. This show is fantastic. We're only three episodes in, and I dearly love these people. A spaceship captain who uses the phrase "don't get tetchy" - what's not to love?

There must be some mathematical constant that describes the relationship between the quality of a science fiction show and how quickly it gets cancelled. Mark, Jeff ... can't you work that out?

I don't think we're going to watch "Serenity" until we finish the series, but Jeff, here's Orson Scott Card's review of the movie.

I. Can't. Wait.
