If you want your children to do any schoolwork ...

Don't hand them Orson Scott Card novels. I don't think I've seen my older children since Sunday, when I handed them "Speaker for the Dead" and "Ender's Shadow."

Michelle was given Ender's Game as her summer reading assignment. She hasn't started yet - she's got her hands full with Scarlet Pimpernel at the moment. Still, I'm curious what she'll think of it.

Have they already read Ender's Game? IMO that is the best of OSC's series, and I have read it several times.

Scarlet Pimpernel was a great read, too!

Oh, yes. They have. They devoured it. They both made it through Xenocide, but I steered them away from Children of the Mind.

Now the older one is finishing up LOTR and is somewhere in the middle of Asimov's Foundation series, and the younger one is gobbling up any Heinlein I'll let him read.

It's great :)
