Out of the mouths of babes ...
Lachlan, age 5: "Hey, Mom ... you have a grandma and grandpa, and Daddy has a grandma and grandpa! Wow! That means there's two sets of old people that love us!"
(He's talking about his grandparents. He still doesn't get that relationship quite right.)

How cute! My youngest doesn't get the my parents/ his parents connection yet either. When I tell her we're going to grandma's house, she asks, "Your grandma or daddy's grandma?" I guess only kids are allowed to have moms. ;)

Things not to repeat to your parents in the midst of their mid-life crisis...

I remember being confused like this as a kid.
When my parents talked about their own parents or their in-laws, around us kids, the names they used were the names they expected the kids to use. "So I asked Grandma Bessie..." "Take this to Grandpa Frank." If they called her Grandma, it must be her grandma, too.
And since both "great-grandmas" didn't want to be addressed as such, the ladies we kids called Grandma really were also my parents' grandmothers.
Now that I think about it, I don't know what my mom called her MIL directly.
