Would you believe it?
In an attempt to solve some ongoing health issues, my new doctor (I love my new doctor) has taken me off dairy.
Okay, fine. It's annoying, but I can do that. I've had to throw out most of what I normally eat: Who would have guessed that my lunchtime turkey burgers have dairy in them? That the veggie burgers have dairy in them? So does the bread.
The last straw, though, was the soy cheese. Soy cheese is pretty disgusting, but it will do in a pinch. I checked the ingredients label today, before I ate some, and guess what? It has dairy in it. What on earth is the point of having dairy in soy cheese? Don't you eat soy cheese because you can't eat dairy? I refuse to believe that there are people out there who actually like fake cheese made out of beans.
It's just sick.

How strict is this? No more chocolate ice cream? No more pizza? I shudder at the thought.

Yes, weird but true, fake cheese that's not dairy free is very common.
Look for vegan cheese. But, of course, check ingredient list anyway for nuts or other allergens lurking.

Not to mention all those vegans out there who are trying to avoid animal products altogether. If I were a vegan and found out the soy cheese I'd been eating for months had dairy in it, "angry" would be an understatement.
We're trying to avoid wheat gluten. I'm discovering wheat gluten in things you'd never even think of. Like toothpaste and vitamins. Luckily we're not super-sensitive or allergic, but what a shopping nightmare if we were!

Okay, you shudder, but if it would cure you, would it be worth it?
The stricter it is, the more I'm likely to see if this is a problem or not. So I'm going to be pretty strict. I don't think dairy is my issue, though, and I expect to be back on it for a few weeks. But then I'll have to see if it's wheat, or yeast, or something else. I can more easily do without dairy than without yeast :)

You have my sympathy. My oldest son, no longer living with me, is on a gluten-free, casein-free (milk protein) diet. I've been there with the soy cheese, yes. Infuriating, isn't it?
Check carefully with them on ingredients, I don't know the details of what sets you off and I haven't shopped here for years, but try http://www.chreese.com/ - my son liked their stuff.

Ah, man. That sucks. Finding out we have a dairy allergy in the house is one of my fears.
I AM surprised at the soy cheese, though, and after almost two years of reading labels for wheat and corn ingredients, I thought I was beyond surprise concerning what they put in food.

I hope diet elimination solves or at the very least pinpoint what triggers the acid reflux. I know grape juice and wine (go figure) triggers mine. Keep me posted.
