You know it's going to be a bad day when ...
you burn the breakfast so badly the smoke alarm goes off.
I should learn to bring my computer into the kitchen. Or maybe not read blogs while I cook. There's a whole generation of kids growing up with internet meals - the food Mom scrounges together after she's either surfed too long to fix the meal, or she's surfed too long and burnt it.
I said earlier that I was turning into my mother, but she would never do what I do to that poor, innocent toast.

Toast! Why does it always have to be toast?

Was there peanut butter on the bread first? If not, you're good.

Hey, I don't use a toaster. Far too dangerous. This way I can make sure the flames are at least contained in the oven.

Hey! I resemble that remark! LOL

Your post reminded me of this classic Coupling quote:
“Well I get very tense in general. I think I’ve fallen into the trap of blaming fruit."
Besides, I think you were systematically burning toast before you ever started reading blogs.

I really think that's debatable, Brian ... unless you count toasters.
I can't place that quote! I must need to go watch more Coupling.
In my defense, the next morning I made some really kick-ass blueberry muffins with freshly-picked blueberries and cinnamon-sugar topping. The kids did not eat them. Go figure. Maybe they're used to burnt.

Toast and toasters, you can't have one without the other.
The Coupling quote is from series four when Jane visits Jeff's apartment and Jeff is talking about his broadly feasible apple.

Oh, YES, the broadly feasible apple! Of course.

I just realized Jeff wasn't in series four (now who needs to watch more - sheesh!), so it was series three.
