Dead Man's Chest
Brian mentioned it down in the comments. Yes, we saw it. And afterwards Jeff and I turned to each other and said, "Oh, it was "Back to the Future II!"
It's not nearly as good as the first one. The best part was the ending (if you haven't seen the movie and plan to, just stop reading right now and go on with your life). Barbossa was such a great character in the first movie; I'm so glad he'll be back. For the life of me, though, I can't figure out how Barbossa is still alive, but the Monkey is undead. What gives?
Aidan and I thought the stunt directors must have a hamster hangup. First the stars ran in the hamster ball, then on the hamster wheel ...
The only quotes we added to our repertoire were "Hide the rum!" and "Squawk! Don't eat me!"
So, disappointing movie. I have hopes for the third one, though. Maybe Barbossa has invented a flux-capacitor and we'll get to go through movie I again.

At least "Back to the Future II" was funny. I barely laughed at all in "Pirates II". The "Hide the rum!" quote got my biggest laugh, I think.
When Geoffrey Rush came on screen at the end, I was thinking 'OK, now we can start the movie." They should have condensed this story into about 30 minutes then got going with Barbossa; that would have been much better.
Obviously, the director fell in love with special effects (did we really need all those long, lingering shots of Davy Jones [and he really hasn't aged well since The Monkees anyway]) which weren't all that special and forgot to tell a decent story.

It would have been nice if they had decided whether to make Davy Jones evil or not. But it was good that he didn't break into "Daydream Believer."
Then again, maybe that was bad, too.
I thought the same thing when they showed Geoffrey Rush.
I barely laughed either. The next night we watched Curse of the Black Pearl again ... and laughed just as much as we always do.

"Hide the rum" has made its way into our house, too. We were disappointed, though - they lost their groove, their quirk, as it were. But we were thrilled to see Barbossa come back. Even the boys said, "Well, three should be great because Barbossa will be in it."
Did the monkey go back and hoark a piece of the coin after it had been put back? Perhaps that way, he's the only one under the curse now? I don't know. But the groans when she let it out of the cage did get a good giggle from me. That's how I feel when the boys let the dog back in.

I just surfed on here while looking for something else, but this entry caught my eye because Barbossa really is the best thing about these movies (apologies to Depp).
The monkey was undead because after the credits are over in the first movie, you have an extra scene where he steals a piece of gold. The second movie had a scene at the end where the dog with the keys becomes the new God of the cannibal tribe.
