We are Here
We got here very late Monday night/very early Tuesday morning, however you choose to look at it. What is it now, Thursday? Thursday.
We're lost under a catastrophe of boxes, and I am still sick. This morning I got myself out of bed, found a doctor and figured out how to drive myself there to beg for drugs. You know it's bad when I'm willing to beg for drugs. I keep thinking, though, that Michigan might look more appealing if I could stop associating it with constant head-splitting pain.
Driving here is insane. Truly, insane. The streets are all twisty and never go where you think they will. Everyone drives too fast on the twisty streets. Sometimes you turn left at a flashing red light instead of a green light ... but sometimes you don't. Sometimes in order to turn left, you stay in the right-hand land and turn right, instead. Maybe they got bored with that same old way of driving, and decided to mix things up?
But anyway, we're here. GM has a four-day weekend, so I guess we'll have some time to find a new car. You're right, E ... for us, this was Holy Shit week ;-)

I am glad that you guys are finally there. Once you figure out the roads and you have a new set of wheels and are feeling better everthing will start to look more appealing to you.

Absolutely, in this situation, drugs are good. Also gin.

OK, I haven't been able to get your blog to load for ages. Then I was gone. And now, wow, you're in Michigan! Finally! YAY! Did you like the doc? Did you get good drugs? I sure hope this move will signal the end of the ick for you guys - you've had more than your fair share. And yes, I'll keep praying for you. Health, peace, a car - good stuff.

I was going to suggest vodka, and chocolate too. But the drugs are definitely a good thing, and might make
Michigan look better faster lol.
Um, welcome home, I think : )

"Sometimes you turn left at a flashing red light instead of a green light ... but sometimes you don't. Sometimes in order to turn left, you stay in the right-hand land and turn right, instead."
On purpose? I mean, I've seen that in the Metroplex, but I don't think it's intentional.
But the real question is, does every street/highway have three or four different names, which change every quarter-mile or so?

Welcome home! Hope you get the medicine.

The gin and vodka are going to have to wait until I can breathe again, but they're good thoughts ;-)
Brian, it's more like this. You wander down a road that twists in every direction. Then you come to a light at an intersection. You turn at the light. But you're on the same road.
You can drive down a road and cross street B. A few miles later, you might cross street B again.
The streets do keep the same *names*, though. Just not the same directions. At least in Texas, although the name changes, you still know which direction you're headed in. The roads here owe nothing to Rome.

Are you settling in?
Do you need to compensate for lost school time?
I always have good intentions of making up for any lost time by "summer schooling," but it never seems to work out. Too hard to concentrate.

Oy. Glad you're there and sorry you're sick.
Weirdest thing about driving in IL is when making a left turn, and the light is green BUT the protected-left-turn light is red, it's apparently still legal to make that left turn. Or it's expected, anyway, whether it's legal or not. This has been a confusing issue for me and has led to many people honking their horns at me while I scream things like, "Jackasses like you are the reason my husband won't let me keep a gun in the car!"
