And the Packing Rolls On

I just packed the 59th box.

It's sad and scary to see how much stuff we still have in the house, although 59 boxes have been packed.

And ... may I just say it? I'd like to stop now. I don't want to make this move.

Of course, if we were to stay here, I wouldn't want there to be any tornadoes, or to be hot in the summer. I'm out of luck either way. (Or as we say, "Either way is bad for Zathras.")

But I don't want to go.

School has come to a screeching halt. Before we leave I want to get pictures made at our local park, take all the kids in for well-child visits, visit my midwife, and take the kids to both Houston and San Antonio. Do you think we can manage all that in five weeks or so? While packing? And with Jeff leaving town every time we turn around? (Because, you know, the job is THERE.) And with kids getting sick every time we turn around?

Yes, I'm whining.

I've packed 15 boxes of books, with more to come. This is both heartening and irritating.

The good news is that I've found all the library books we've lost over the years. I turned them in and they gave me a credit. A credit! A credit at the library!

Did I mention that we still don't have a house up there?

I'll stop whining now. Instead, I'll leave you with a tidbit of Texas history. It turns out that my kids are related to this woman. So, running the state is in their blood eh? Along with accepting bribes of land and money. Hmmm. We could work with this, don't you think?

Hang in there, Stephanie! I'm amazed that you are packing so far ahead (in all our moves, I've always been a one-week packer).

I think San Antonio and Houston are totally doable - after it gets a tad warmer!

BTW, that bio is on my BIL's website. He works there. I think that those genes are definitely valuable assets. With a little direction...

I think once you guys get a house picked out, you'll feel better. All you are doing is shutting things down here, with no psychological beginning to look for. I can't imagine packing up not knowing where I was going TO. Once you get a place, then you'll get to start planning things up there, rather than just boxing up here.

I agree w/ Mark - it's easier to pack up and go when you have somewhere to go. It will come. Want me to call and sing that song from Finding Nemo - just keep swimming, swimming, swimming!

In the meantime, whining is TOTALLY allowed.

But you could use the land and money now, so get Jeff to do it.

I remember dad long ago telling me we were related to the first female governor of Texas and that she was impeached (I see now it was actually a failed attempt). I never looked into it, but I know Ferguson is a name in our family, so that was pretty interesting to read.

Also, if you ever come back, I'm sure that credit will come in handy.

how are the boys handling the impending move? I know the girls would be freaked at the thought, which would unhinge me......not that it takes much ;-)

Stephanie - I think you and I might need to have a confab...I asked my FIL if he happened to be related to Ma and Pa Ferguson and his brief answer to me was "no relation I claim" - which could either mean no, or he's too embarrassed by Ma and Pa to admit it. There has been talk in the family that Yes, there is a familial connection.

If you make it to Houston, would be pleased if you dropped a note to say hi (although if you dont get around to it I understand) - we are heading into Ancient Greece ourselves...we skipped the Chicken Mummy and just went for girly-girl Egyptian Beauty Shop. I am thinking about culling togehter some Greek comestibles for the girls to eat while we cover our next lesson.

Best...sharon
