Late to the Party

We've finally started watching "Firefly."

Why didn't anyone tell us? No, I know, you all told us. This show is fantastic. We're only three episodes in, and I dearly love these people. A spaceship captain who uses the phrase "don't get tetchy" - what's not to love?

There must be some mathematical constant that describes the relationship between the quality of a science fiction show and how quickly it gets cancelled. Mark, Jeff ... can't you work that out?

I don't think we're going to watch "Serenity" until we finish the series, but Jeff, here's Orson Scott Card's review of the movie.

I. Can't. Wait.

Bwah ha ha! There's books, too . . .

I know, I know ... are they GOOD books? Who writes them?

Star Trek: 28 seasons (all incarnations)
Doctor Who: 28 seasons
Stargate: 11 seasons (SG-1+Atlantis)
Babylon 5: 6 seasons (B5+Crusade)
Farscape: 4 seasons

I dunno - I think it's a crap-shoot.

Steph, I would say don't watch Serenity until you've watched the entire series. I think your bond with the characters needs to be complete so you can feel the full impact of the movie. Hopefully you've managed to avoid spoilers!

As far as the books go, so far as I know (and I'm too lazy to look it up before I finish typing this), there is only one book, the adaptation of the movie. It was written by Keith R.A. DeCandido who also wrote the only one of the three (that I'm aware of) Farscape books worth reading.

I knew you guys would like this show starting about the time you see Wash playing with dinosaurs. Griffin as an adult?

Brian, that was our immediate thought: "Look! It's GRIFFIN!"

Brilliant.

I'd just like to say: "I told you so."

Like you, I bonded startlingly quickly to the characters. The dialogue is Fab.
