Not Dead Yet

Some of you have accused me of being too quiet, and want to know what's up?

The secret is that when I'm depressed, I don't blog. Y'all don't want to hear me being depressed.

The allergy thing has thrown me for a loop. I spend most of my time worrying about it. On the, er, plus side, I've lost 10 pounds. Apparently the secret to successful dieting is to be terrified of your food. Who knew? Do you think this is a marketable idea?

"Guaranteed weight loss - we scare, because we care!"

"Terror - the hidden weight loss friend!"

Maybe not?

"Lose weight through mindless terror."

I can see it catching on in Hollywood. In fact, is that not where anorexia comes from?

Steph,

My Crohn's was never quite as threatening as your allergy, but I do understand some of the fear you are going through. Remember, I dropped 30-40 pounds when I first was diagnosed. I ate a lot of lunches at buffet places like Golden Corral and Soup-R-Salad because it seemed like the only way to get a lot of variety without having to go "this, but not that" every time I ordered food.

You'll figure this stuff out.

I normally just read blogs - not post - but I have to pipe up about this topic. I have the same sort of life threatening allergy - mine is to strawberries. You'd think it would be easy to avoid them - but for some reason manufacturers smash those suckers up/juice them/extract them/moosh them/pipe them into an amazing number of foods. You just have to learn to relax - learn not to be afraid - learn to read everything. After the first year you're going to learn what foods are friendly to you and what foods aren't. Give yourself some time and be patient - and stop being scared. You're a smart girl - keep educating yourself and you're going to be alright. If your allergy gives you respiratory distress, always research where the nearest Emergency Room is when you travel -- and put your allergy onto all of your profiles -- health insurance, hotel frequent stayer programs, airline programs -- *everywhere* that they let you. Once you get into the groove, you're going to be alright Steph. I'll go back to reading now.

Part of the problem with the modern world - we get depressed, we stop communicating - for many of us, would anyone notice? I wonder sometimes if I dropped from sight if anyone would. Well, philosophical discussion on what Karl refers to as the atomization of society.

Hope you feel less depressed! I'm glad you get people checking with you. I'm glad to see your posts.

I can't say I'm not jealous about the 10# weight loss, but I wouldn't trade it for the fear and the loss of being able to eat nuts. atleast its not beer!

Oh (((honey))). I'm just commenting to tell you that I'm sorry that you're going through this.

If you tell us what you're allergic to, maybe we can help?

((Steph))

there's always a bright side - it could be nuts AND beer.

Oh, yes. That, and my special formula weight loss capsules containing tapeworm eggs.

Cheers.

Steph,

You know I know how you feel. My allergy to shellfish and to mangos really can suck when you discover what is in certain drinks and dishes that you *think* you would love. I read on the Hawaiian Punch label that it contains mango. Needless to say I try to avoid it now. Hang in there and just ask questions and read labels..you will be fine.

I really don't think you are allergic to nuts. We tested you for everything and nuts did not show up on the test. Mentally though, we may have another situation.

Love you.
