Love and Mud
"What's that movie about, Mom?" asked my three year old as we walked out of the library.
"This movie?" I asked. "This movie is about two people who fall in love." I held up yet another copy of "Much Ado About Nothing," the third in my attempt to get the version with Robert Lindsay playing Benedick.
"They fall in mud?" my son asked incredulously.
"No, honey, they fall in love."
"Ohhhh," he nodded, understanding. "They fall in love." He thought for a moment and then added, hopefully, "And mud?"
Obviously, the mud bit is the more interesting bit to the mind of the three-year-old male. He's going to be so disappointed in Shakespeare, at least until those hormones kick in.

I was amazed how much the kids (4.5yob, 6yob, and almost 8yog) enjoyed (and understood) Kenneth Branagh's "Henry V" the other month. The big hits were the battle scenes and Emma Thompson's French lesson : )
The eldest also enjoyed Olivier's version of "Richard III", and I think there's enough goofy stuff in Midsummer and Much Ado to keep anyone over the age of 4 or so entertained. At least I *think* so, and should have a better idea in about a month; we're still finishing up SOTW2, and I'd like to have a Shakespeare fest in the next while.

...but those were pretty good meatballs, especially with the lingonberry! Thanks again for helping me navigate through with my purchases. Next time, I either need to drag the hubby or leave Lanie with him at home.

Becky,
We haven't done much Shakespeare with the boys yet, though they have watched Branagh's Henry V. Connor is old enough this year to start reading some of the story versions of the plays, and then (I hope) off we go!
