Grumble

Griffin is happy. He's playing. But, he says, there's something in his throat that he doesn't want there.

So yes, based on our recent experience, that alone led us to take him to the doctor. And yes, you guessed it, he has strep.

I think we should all wear big shirts with a biohazard warning sign on them. And add antibiotics to our drinking supply for the next six months.

Y'all will understand this, right? Having this many kids is an incredible joy and blessing. And having this many kids bites.

I know someone who DID do antibiotics for Strep for six months. He would get it twice a year like clockwork, do the antibiotics, and get it again. What they figured was happening was that it would creep up into the folds of his throat and stick around and revitalize. After doing antibiotics for six months, it killed it on its rebirth and he hasn't had it since.

Oh (((Steph))).

I totally understand. Well, except that you have more than I do. So I understand in theory and and can't imagine understanding in reality. You ladies with more than 2 amaze me.

I'd got strep frequently as a child - once or twice a year. Then, the year between my 12th and 13th birthdays, I got strep 9 times in a row! I'd go on 2 weeks of abx, retest and be fine. Then a week later, I'd be sick and test positive, go on 2 more weeks of abx and repeat. Finally, with that 9th occurance, I was sent to an ENT who put me on MEGA doses of abx for 4 weeks, including some kind of topical spray stuff. Didn't work. At the 10th occurance, they convinced my mom to be rid of the tonsils. I've had only one strep infection since - that was 2 yrs ago.

And I DO understand about illness going thru the children. Since last Saturday Natalie, then Zachary, then Mike (officially not a child of mine;-), then Rachel have all had some virus. It starts with a high-ish fever and VERY sore VERY red throat. All kinds of signs of strep. Took Natalie in (after starting the homeopathics), both strep tests were neg. The doc assured me it was viral and to expect it to last 3 to 5 days - all based on what they've been seeing. Natalie and Zachary took the homeopathic regimine I set up - they were both well in just over 24 hours. Rachel was not as eager and took about 2 full days. Mike was pretty much all about just leaving him alone...he's still feeling it at 4 days past first symptom. GO HOMEOPATHICS!!!

Are you going to share that homeopathic regimen, Diane? What did you use??

Interestingly the docs haven't mentioned a six-month course of abx, although I know from searching the internet that that is a common treatment. They have already mentioned taking the tonsils out. Someone in this house is a carrier, though, and we need to figure out who and treat him as well.
