Ouch
Now that Jeff is home, I don't want to go to Curves any more. I'd rather spend the money on a place my whole family can go; plus, it's just not that good of a workout. It's okay, it's certainly better than nothing, but it's not great.
I haven't decided what other club to join yet, so for now I'm mostly exercising at home. A friend of mine bought the first few T-Tapp DVDs, and I've been trying them out this week. So far, it's just painful. I've been doing "Basic Workout #1" which is a paltry 15 minutes long. Fifteen minutes! Easy!
I did the 15 minute workout on Tuesday, and again on Wednesday, learning the routine.
On Thursday, I had to stop the DVD twice to get through the easy 15 minute workout.
That does not do wonders for one's self esteem.
I did the workout again today. I couldn't get through it today, either. I had to break halfway through and rest. This stuff looks easy, but it's really 15 minutes of torture.
My friend tells me that "Instructional Workout #2" is 40 minutes long.
That's just insane.
Folks, I am not in bad shape. Not at all. This workout just uses muscles I never knew I had. It had just better be worth it.
I suppose if I miss Curves, I can always make an Amy Grant/Disco mix tape to throw on in the background.

It is VERY worth it!!! I did nothing but that video (after I learned the routine) 3-4x/week for 2 months and lost around 20 inches all over. Yep, it is torture though, but it does get easier over time....and then you can go back and do the instructional again which is slower and slower means MORE painful. :)

I gave up on Curves myself a long time ago - I agree : it's not that great of a workout, and I dont know what your experience has been, but in my area there were one or two really bitchy old ladies who would snap your head off if you stayed on the station one second too long.
Curves is really good if your doctor recommended a very low impact workout, but I really like a mixture of low and high. That has been real difficult to find without paying exhorbitant fees for an over glorified, and noisy gym.

Hey now!! Don't you be dissin' my Amy! I LOVE that woman! I've loved her music since I was in Jr. High, when she came out with an album where she DARED on the album cover to wear a jacket made out of animal print cloth... well... my Grandma took one look at that album cover and said that Amy had gone from sweet to very wicked indeed!!! Bwa ha!! She's on the EDGE! She's ROCKIN'!

glad to see you shaking Curves and moving on. How are you doing weight/size-wise? You have been far better than I have about exercising lately, so I need to take a cluse from you....I need to drop a couple sizes between now and the fall....

Well, from someone who IS painfully out of shape, and shows no signs of fixing that in the near future, I'm really tickled that you're keeping up on it. Give it time, really. Two weeks faithfully and you'll feel a huge difference. I had a similar experience with Callanetics - it looked so simple, so blatantly easy - and I have never, in my life, hurt so bad as I did the first two weeks of following that sadistic (but honest) woman's program. KEEP IT UP!
Oh, and you know, adding torture to torture doesn't cancel any of it out... I'd avoid the mix tape. Seriously. Or go with something completely funky and way out there - like a Celtic warm-up, followed by some hard-core Polka, a little reggae, cool down w/ a waltz or a march... get wild with it, and you'll be so wierded out by the music selection, you won't be able to think of the pain.

Oh, oh, oh, I meant to mention - we'll be in your neck of the woods next weekend-ish. Think you'd be up for gettin' together? I left a note for Amy, too - I'm thinking maybe let the boys run feral in a park, have some coffee, relax in the relatively arid climate...
LMK,

Arid? LOL It's 84% humidity right now. And no rain forecast all week. And hot.
YES, email me details!! Ironically another of my imaginary friends will be in town that weekend, too. When it rains, it pours! Let's see what we can work out, though.

E, my weight has stayed essentially the same since November, no matter what I do. WW doesn't seem to be working. Regular exercise is not working. So I just keep doggedly doing it all, because I *believe* it will work eventually.
Okay, I keep going on and off WW. But when I'm on, I lose a couple of pounds and gain them right back.
Jo - I'm not dissing Amy! I'm dissing Curves for putting a back beat on Amy's BALLADS and calling it workout music. They also do that to songs like "Rhiannon" and "You're So Vain."
Pens - 20 inches?? See, there's the motivation. You bet.

You see, I convinced Steph that Curves was going to be great. 30 minutes 3 times a week and our kids could play in the play area. Sadly, I have not lost inches or pounds, either.
Now I am turning her the t-tapp way. LOL It is a hard workout, but I am looking forward to seeing if it works. I sure hope it does.
The worst part about the music at Curves is that I used to listen to the xtian rock when I was in high school and it is just so *wrong*. White Heart and Petra as music for working out is not how it is supposed to be.

WW is one of those odd things....I think it works well for a few people and others never lose (my sister Joan for example) and some who lose but gain it again when they are done with weekly weigh-ins. As tempted as I am to go back for short term weight loss, I am resisting, knowing it would be a temporary fix for me.
I'm thinking of revisiting the Firm Dvds since those really worked well when i did them enough. I"ll let you know how that goes....
