Birthday Cake

1) Make a yellow/chocolate swirl cake.

2) When it's done baking, poke holes all over it. Pour liquid strawberry Jell-O into the holes. Refrigerate until cake and Jell-O are cool.

3) Mix together vanilla or cream cheese frosting with a brick of cream cheese, and a bit of lemon juice. Slather onto cake.

4) Top cake with sliced strawberries.

5) Indulge.

It's my Aidan baby's birthday. It feels like he was born a few months ago, of course, instead of seven years. My, oh my.

His birth was a fun one. He was born in a lovely birth center in Dallas. It was a fast labor, though, and a 40-minute drive to the center. We got there, walked in, and Aidan was born. The sun rose, we napped, and were home 14 hours after the first contraction. And there he was, our feisty, sensitive, stubborn, funny, determined, gifted little fireball. (The name "Aidan" means "little fire.") And on his daddy's birthday, too!

Happy Birthday, boys.

OK, well the cake sounds just yummy, for starters. I love the story- what a labor! WOOHOO!

Happy Birthday to the Big Guy and the Gettin' Bigger Guy. (Cuz 7 isn't so little anymore- just ask Aidan!)

I hope you are having a lovely week.

I did snip all the parts about pain ;-) But in a way, it was the best labor experience of all of them. I *never* felt out of control of the contractions until the very end. Even in the car. I was the Bradley Queen. I never managed to get to that level of relaxation and control again. It was amazing.

I think my boy had a good day: he got a big spaceship toy, got to play at the park with friends, eat a favorite dinner, have cake, and now he's getting to camp out in the living room with a Looney Toones DVD. The Big Guy and I will celebrate our birthdays by going out to dinner some other night.
