Could it be?

Aaaahhhh!

Dy, I think your Fall might be here!

Now I know this is Texas, and it will be right back up to 80 degrees soon enough. But it's 50 right now, and much to my kids' dismay I have the door open and am basking in the chill.

Last night I smelled wood smoke. Yep, folks in Texas fire up their chimneys when the temperatures dip below 60.

We went, all excited, to the local resale store. They had great, cheap Halloween costumes there last year. I want to buy all the great, cheap costumes I can lay my hands on. But this year - none. Zip. Nada. They don't carry Halloween items any more. Their profits go to a Christian charity, and the implication was that they are now too Christian to sell Halloween items. Bah. Fine, but where do I get cheap costumes now?

Time for coffee and to drag the kiddos awake. We sleep later here. I'm looking forward to turning the clocks back.

Oh, and yes, I watched the debate. I, personally, would like to ask Sen. Kerry one thing: Exactly how does one go about X-raying the cargo hold of a plane? I have visions of driving the plane up to a giant X-ray machine. With the metal plane. How does this work, exactly? And how does that add to our safety in the air? Is he banking on a terrorist planting a bomb inside the structure of the plane? And if it is in the structure of the plane, would one find it with X-rays? Or is he worried that someone is going to pop a bomb in apart from the other baggage, and an X-ray of the cargo hold would find that?

Maybe he means something different?

Sadly, I'm not sure that the canidates that are not IN office ever really get to say what THEY truly believe. I think that they mostly say what the Democratic party heads what him to say - to speak the party platform and toe the party line. Afterall, if he won't do that, "they" wouldn't have gotten him that far.

So, prehaps asking him what he meant wouldn't get you a satisfactory answer. He may have been told to say that and he's not got a clue just like you.

It's a BIG x-ray tunnel... and all the people, as their loaded plane is run through it, look like Yosemite Sam when he gets shocked. Not terribly efficient, but it does have a lot of entertainment value for the Union folks.

FALL FALL FALL~~~ I love fall in Texas! I love chile powder and storms coming in across the plains and dusty sidewalks and and and... *sigh* Enjoy it for me.

I love fall too!!!! I was so basking in the cool wave myself...and now it is back to steambath hell this week.

What gripes me about the "Christian" take of Halloween was that it was supposed to be something of an autumnal Mardi Gras...a night to 'cut loose' and play the fool so that on All Souls day, one could attend Mass ready to clear the conscience and have it all out of the system. The way I was taught, it was also a means of fooling the evil spirits into thinking you were one of them, so they wouldnt attack you. How this translates into evil witchcraft, I dont know, except to say that a lot of Americans have fallen for the kitschiness of commercialistic history ie its all about 'witches and demons and cats, oh my!'. As a traditional Christian (ACC), I think this holiday is one of the neatest moments in the Liturgical year. Although, I do know the admonishment from the churches is that if you MUST dress up, dress up as something good.

Doesnt that make you an even greater target?! I think the people of the early Church would be aghast.
