More on the Wacko Homeschoolers

Michelle Malkin covered the wacko terrorist homeschoolers story, and has follow-up letters and articles on her blog. And thank you to Joanne for writing to Mr. Stout and posting her letter and his reply.

A commenter at Joanne's site said that we homeschoolers now sound like any other minority group, demanding an apology. I don't think there's anything particularly whiny or inherently wrong in feeling that an apology is appropriate. No one is asking for any kind of restitution or demanding that the government step in to fix things. But look, if you're dumb enough to go around saying things like that, people are going to get upset and the right thing to do is to say "Whoops! My mistake! I'm sorry!"

It's ridiculous to say that makes us a whiny minority. By that logic we should all just say whatever we want about any person or group, and revel in the safe idea that we don't have to make amends or be responsible for our actions. If you say something that offends, whether you say it out of ignorance or malicious intent, good manners requires an apology. If the offended group takes their outrage and uses it for gain, or air time, or to go on and on about how oppressed they are and someone should do something ...then you have whiny minority syndrome.

Funny you should write about apologies. I recieved an email today that was all caps, ended with three exclaination points and started with, "I want ..."

I replied with the information and asked her not to shout. Of course, after several emails, she "apologied" if she offended me but she is an artist and she marched to a different drummer. This was such a non apology.

Why is it so hard for people to realize when they have overstepped the bounds of manners? It is not whining to require others to treat people with respect.

What?!?! You mean we aren't going to get restitution for this? There's no renumeration for pain and suffering and excessive time spent online to find out what happened next?!?!? Sheesh. All that AND no actual apology! ;-)

Poor Joanne, I don't think she was looking for her corner of the world to be invaded like that.
