Okay, I owe George Lucas an apology of sorts. That wasn't terrible. I still hate what he did to Han and Greedo, but the rest was fine.
Today is Mabon, the fall equinox. This is a harvest festival, and so we plan to celebrate it by feasting. The pumpkin pie is made. Today Aidan and I will bake bread. (It's not a Pagan holiday unless you bake bread!) Dinner will consist of corn on the cob, chicken baked with apples, either sweet potatoes or some kind of squash, and something green. And a pomegranate. We might make black and white cookies.
This celebration is about balance. On earth right now, light and darkness are balanced. This is the last steadying point before we head into the darkness of winter. Harvest is not yet over, but today the sun gives us notice that that time is coming. We have more work to do, but we can pause for a moment to enjoy the fruits of our labor, and find ways to share that fruit with others.
Oh, I love Fall. This is my favorite season, although it is usually an idealized season for me. Fall is in my mind, while the the air around me swelters; in Texas the leaves are more likely to just die than to turn pretty colors. I think they just give up after the long summer. It doesn't feel like Fall today in Chicago. The high today will be 80 degrees. It will be humid. In my head, though, it will be 60 degrees with a light breeze off the lake; the leaves will be turning, and at night there will be woodsmoke in the air. It will be nice to snuggle in at home with some hot apple cider.
Have fun today, folks. Play outside while you can.

It's definitely fall here. Leaves are piling on the ground. Geese honk as they fly over head. My nose has been cold for a week. The light is golden. The apples are ready to harvest.
May balance bless you and yours.

ROFL- that's a good point. The fall I love isn't necessarily the one I'm living.
Happy Mabon! Enjoy the balance, and enjoy preparing for the time of rest and putting roots a little deeper, a little more snugly into nourishing ground. This will be a great year for you all!

I keep telling myself I need to make a binder in which I keep all our holiday ideas. That way I won't have to keep relying on my (ha!) memory.
