Just a quick update. Yes, I'm in Texas. The trip was safe and uneventful. We've been very busy since we've gotten here, trying to put our house back in order and spend time with ALL of our friends. All while I'm frantically trying to plan for the year. Not to mention the odd ER trip. Whew.
Two weeks is not long enough.
I'm very frustrated, as I run around town. If we stayed here, my boys could play baseball on the local teams. They could participate in a co-op class on Texas history. They could join a homeschool choir, and participate in a music lab. They could participate in various physical education activities. They could hang out with their friends.
All I have to do is to decide to live without my husband (and their father) for months.
I don't like that kind of frustration. Usually when I make a decision, I'm pretty good at not looking back.
Ah, well.
So I've come home to discover that someone stole Texas' summer. What did y'all do with it? The temperatures are bearable! No triple-digit heat! What are y'all thinking? Not that I'm complaining. I'm really not. Honest.
Planning for the school year is not going well. This is the year that it's time to change focus, to get more serious about academics. I can't seem to come up with a doable plan, however. I'm searching for a clarity that has so far been elusive. I have too much stuff I want to do, too many ideas. We can't do it all. I have to focus, clarify, streamline. It is not happening easily. The clutter is too loud.
Posted by Steph at August 16, 2004 01:10 AMWelcome back. It's a pity you're not staying longer, since we've moved out here we hope to meet you all someday.
Any hope of Jeff's job situation smoothing out in the foreseeable future?
I was feeling encouraged about the summer, thinking "okay, I can handle this", until a local told me she couldn't remember a summer this cool. Oh well. Maybe it's a trend.
Posted by: Laura Gallagher on August 16, 2004 09:56 AMHi there Steph!! Glad to hear the trip Home (is Texas anything BUT?!) was uneventful and safe. As for the weather, didnt you bring it down with you? or at least send it down ahead. If so, STAY AWHILE!!! Im loving it.

Posted by: Sharon Ferguson on August 16, 2004 01:56 PMWhat a rough decision Steph.. I haven't stopped by your blog in a while..sorry.. things have been busy since we moved ourselves. I've a friend doing the same thing you are contemplating right now. let me know if you want me to put you two in touch. She is living in UT while her DH is working in CA...she's homeschooling her 5 while he's away. Tough job for both of them...
I know what you mean about trying to get things figured out for this school year. I'm trying to do the exact same thing. I've got a plan, but it feels to stifled to me. I want the fly by the seat of our pants fun to be allowed, and if I follow my program there is little opportunity to do that. :( I guess I'll figure it out as I go along.. Hopefully you will too!
take care..
oh and pss..thanks for the giggles re the spelling list...grins..
Isn't this summer GREAT?!?! I heard on the news not too many days ago that Oklahoma will probably not have any days above 100 degrees. That's a *big* deal. I can't remember the exact statistic, but it's some kind of historical record (only happened three times in the last hundred years or something like that). I'm convinced that God is being merciful to me; once it dipped down to the mid-eighties and stayed, I could see the bones in the tops of my feet again (the joys of being hugely pregnant in the summertime).
