Grumpy

I am grumpy.

I am tired. But we're back on the road in the morning and we're miles from being ready.

I've made amazing progress on the house in the past few hours. On the one hand, that is really nice. On the other, when my husband comes home he will have no idea of the amount of work I've done.

The goal is to have the house uncluttered enough that I can hire cleaning people to clean right before the next trip home.

The contract has been extended, which means we'll be in Chicago forever. Well, not forever, but for a great deal longer than we expected to. That's fine - it gives us more time to explore and enjoy. On the other hand, it is nice to see one's friends every so often. Plus, our cat-care plan was meant to be short-term and now we have to come up with a longer-term one.

Anyone out there want two kitties? :D

I'm also grumpy because I got a ticket. I was going 15 mph over the speed limit, in a school zone. Yes, I deserved the ticket. I haven't had a ticket in a very, very long time and I was shocked, stunned and amazed to find out what tickets cost these days. Do you have any idea what this kind of ticket costs?

$260.

Yes, TWO HUNDRED and SIXTY dollars. Oy. That's a car payment. Or, as my dear friend Scott pointed out to me, that's the Right Start math curriculum.

I want to cry. Certainly I won't be speeding again anytime soon.

I have to write a letter to the judge, explaining why I cannot come in for a court date, and asking for probation. I hope it's a nice, understanding judge.


Oh, I saw Hidalgo this week. An actual movie seen in an actual movie theater! It was okay. It could have been a good movie, if the movie makers had ever decided upon which movie they were making. They spent so much time trying to cover too many bases that they didn't develop parts of the story that really needed developing. But I imagine it's quite tricky to make a movie with the dual themes of "white people are arrogant and terrible" and "western individuality and determination always win over eastern blind adherence to custom and religion."

But the acting was decent. And pretty :)

Back to packing and cleaning and that kind of thing.

Yay on Chicago forever! Hopefully it means we'll have time to hook up with kids over the summer sometime!

Oops. Guess I forgot to mention on the blog that we ever left for Texas, lol. We spent the last two weeks at home, taking care of the house, swapping winter clothes for spring clothes, speeding, etc.

Sometimes I get a little paranoid about broadcasting where we're going to be before we go, and then I end up forgetting to say it at all.

Dy, I'm nowhere near Rivendell. We didn't walk anywhere in Texas. We were lumps who took the car everywhere and ate everything in sight. I don't know if my wee Hobbits are ready, but *I* can't wait to get out and walk places tomorrow. I hope they didn't get too soft on our "vacation" ;-)

Oh, yes. Forgot the other reason we went home: I lost my driver's license and had to get a new one. I had reapplied for it the day before the ticket, and just didn't manage to have the temporary license in the car with me. Go, me!

So, to sum up: we WERE in Texas, we ARE in Chicago.

And my computer is still not fixed, but my darling husband will work on it this week.
