We're here! I am typing at you from 18 stories above Michigan Avenue. From our living room, we can see the lake and Navy Pier.
It's cold. No, really cold. We haven't been out much, yet. I hope to get a stroller and get oriented this weekend, though, and start getting out with the kids next week.
Let me make sure you are appreciating what I just said. I have been in an apartment, for three days, with four young boys who are used to running, jumping, being loud, and generally being rambunctuous boys. They have had nowhere to play. Yesterday we did venture out to the nice-looking courtyard across the street, but the doorperson was not very happy about us playing there. Not to mention that it was a PAIN like you wouldn't believe getting the little kids into their cold-weather gear. Ugh. I have deemed today too cold to go out, as the high today is 11 and there's wind. It is nice and sunny, though, and I neeeeeeeeed suuuuuuuuun.
On the other, hand, we're getting lots of school done.
It was a long trip, and we made it in two days. As we neared Chicago on the evening of the second day, Griffin started saying "I want to go home." He's still saying it, poor thing. Connor, on the other hand, keeps staring out the windows at the buildings and the people and saying "Mom, I love Chicago!" He's always been like that, though: he's up for any adventure. Except for the subway, which terrified him.
We didn't bring enough cold weather clothes. One night we headed out with the kids to buy them more coats, gloves, hats, etc. On Michigan Ave. The Magnificent Mile. After awhile of searching, I finally figured out that the only store we could remotely afford to shop in was The Gap. So my kids are all Gap-outfitted now. Who would ever have thought that would happen?
I see while I was gone I missed a political discussion on TWTM board. Aw, no fair. That could have been fun :)
The kids are bickering. Off I go.
Posted by Steph at January 22, 2004 01:30 PMYippee! I'm glad you made it okay. Good luck with the boys being cooped up.
Posted by: Rebel on January 22, 2004 04:29 PMOh, and what an adventure. Chicago does get COLD! I'm shivering just thinking about it. Glad you got the kids all outfitted, although, yeah, I can imagine it's one of those odd parallel universe moments to have the kids all decked out in The Gap. *grin*
Can't wait to hear all about your adventures! Glad you are safely ensconsed there now. I'll bet it's great to see Hubby.
