More by Owl Post

The boys turned in their Hogwarts SCS registration forms on Monday night, and are awaiting their replies. I just have to write them up and print them, and sneak them outside. I finally found some sealing wax and an 'H' stamp for the seal.

Their reactions to this have been funny. Connor is torn between knowing that this is not the real Hogwarts, and peeking out the window at night to catch the owls. Aidan, on the other hand, very seriously talks about attending Hogwarts for real when he's 11. I was starting to worry about that, but Jeff reminded me that he's only 5; he will certainly figure this out sometime within the next six years.

Oh - and Connor wrote on his registration form that what he really wants to learn is Transfiguration.

I've prepared lessons in Astronomy from Professor Sinistra (Rowling never tells us Sinistra's first name. I'm calling her Astrid, with apologies). I'm working on Wizard Studies from Dumbledore (they'll make wands and maybe robes). Then we'll do Charms for Muggle Witches and Herbology. For Charms I'm planning on having them make a protection charm for their room, and a "charmed" sleep pillow with lavender (from herbology). Plus, we'll do Latin roots, heh heh. And then in herbology we'll study herbs ... and a venus flytrap.

My children have opted out of Potions and Care of Magical Creatures. Weird.

Really all the lessons will be short and simple. I just want to see how this goes. If it goes well, I'll expand it. My big fear is that they'll get Harry Potter burnout before they're old enough to do the really fun stuff. These ladies on the HogwartsSCS list are so darned creative! I'm so thankful that they share their work. I know that I have it in me to be this creative, but see, I've got these kids that suck the energy out of my brain ...

I don't know, considering that some of Hagrid's students end up being bitten by a strange creature, how anxious would you be?

Oh, come on, that just shows a complete lack of a sense of adventure!

Actually, Connor's stated reason was "Well, Hagrid's not a very good teacher, is he?"

LOL

I imagine we'll end up doing it anyway, because we want to buy Griffin a snake. And I'm not going to miss out on directing a class as Professor Snape.
