Day 1
Connor: Mom, my tummy's full. I think I just need to lie down here for awhile.
Me: Okay.
Connor: Oh, good, then while we're here, we can do history!
Day 2
Connor: (holding up a magnet with the word "fly" on it) I know what this says.
Me: Really? What?
Connor: Flee.
Me: Not exactly ... here the y makes an I sound.
Connor: Oh ... fly. So, is it fly like the bug? Or fly like you fly? (flapping his wings)
Me: It's both. It's spelled the same, but it means both things.
Connor: Then how do you know the difference?
Me: (snip explanation of context) ... hey, do you know what part of speech "fly" the bug is?
Connor: (thinks for a moment) It's a noun! A common noun!
Me: Right! And "fly" like you fly in an airplane?
Connor: (has to think a big longer on this one) ... oh, wait! It's a verb!
A few moments go by.
Connor: Mom, you know what I think we should do? I think you should make up a test, where you write down common nouns, and proper nouns, and pronouns, and verbs, and I'll figure out what each one is and circle them.
I was able to not let him see me laughing.
Off to make my son his requested grammar test, lol.
